The Credit Lawyers of America Commitment

Credit Lawyers of America has a very colorful history. The firm was founded in 1990 in Michigan by me, Attorney Gary Nitzkin.

From 1990 to 2008, we were collection attorneys. We collected debts against consumers. We were a high-volume debt collection law firm and represented major banks and hospital systems. All this came to a crash when I had a bad collection experience.

In the summer of 2008, our firm was known as Nitzkin and Associates. We had obtained a default judgment on behalf of a hospital, against couple due to their child’s medical bills. The mother filed a Motion to Set Aside the default. In court, the mother explained to the court how their child had taken ill, and they went through their insurance and life savings to keep their kid alive. I never felt more embarrassed or humiliated in my life.

Meet the Credit Lawyers of America team

I agreed to set aside the default. I came home that day and told my wife that I just had to get out of the debt collection business. I could no longer do this kind of work.

A short time later, a lady had retained Nitzkin and Associates to clean up her credit report as her identity and those of several of her family members had been stolen by her ex husband. I discovered a love for this work as I was now helping people.

In 2010, I re-branded the firm to Michigan Consumer Credit Lawyers and focused exclusively on collection defense and other matters to help consumers, especially when it did not cost them anything. The firm was and remains, very successful.

In 2015, we expanded the firm into Arizona. Helping consumers being harassed by debt collectors proved to be a business model that was highly in demand around the country. We have decided to expand again.

Today, the firm is transitioning into a national brand and will be renamed Credit Lawyers of America as of January 2017. We have a long list of states into which to expand to help people fight against bad debt collectors. Helping consumers is far more rewarding than working for debt collectors.
